What is 1 day van insurance?

1 day van insurance is a way to cover yourself to drive a van without owning it - or to lend your own van to someone quickly and easily (and without risking your no claims bonus). Policies start instantly and are fully comprehensive, so you’ve got the same level of cover as traditional annual van insurance.

This flexibility is perfect for borrowing, lending and sharing a van. It’s also great for test-driving a potential new van, or driving one you’ve just bought back home so you’re covered until you’ve found a longer-term policy. It also includes [class 1 business use](https://support.cuvva.com/en/articles/89933-can-i-use-cuvva-cover-for-my-business) - more on that lower down this page.

How much does 24 hour van insurance cost?

The exact price of 1 day van insurance varies on a number of factors including the make and model, the driver’s age and history, and the time and location - but to give you a little insight, we’ve rounded up some average prices for some of the most popular vans we insure.

For 1 day’s insurance, the average Cuvva user will pay £25.62 for a Vauxhall Vivaro, £27.57 for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and £29.01 for a Ford Transit (our most popular model).

Remember, these are average prices for specific makes and models, so you could find a much lower price depending on the vehicle you’re trying to insure and your own driving experience.

What can I use daily van insurance for?

Borrowing, lending, and sharing a van is easy with 1 day van insurance - so you can use it for a whole range of short-term projects. Moving home and need to borrow a van to help with the load? Want to insure a colleague to nip to another work site? Big plans for a trip to IKEA, or the dump? Whatever your to-do list, ultra-flexible van insurance could be the perfect solution.

You’re also covered for carriage of own goods (basically, carrying tools or specialist equipment for work) and class 1 business use (for driving between different sites, driving to meet clients, or commuting).

However, it’s worth keeping in mind that this sort of cover isn’t suitable for certain business uses, such as hire and reward (like delivery) or motor trading. You also can’t use it to learn to drive.

What vans you can cover

Vans covered
Vans in insurance group 20 or below: Lower insurance groups indicate lower risk and costs. [Check yours here](https://www.cuvva.com/insurance-groups).
Small, short wheelbase vans - for example, a Citroen Berlingo: These compact vans are great for zipping around town to run errands and carry out quick jobs.
Medium panel vans - for example, a Ford Transit: A step up in size, medium panel vans balance cargo space with good manoeuvrability, suitable for a variety of commercial uses.
Large vans - for example, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter: The largest category offers significant cargo capacity, ideal for heavy-duty transport.
Vans not covered
Vans valued over £40,000.
Campervans or motorhomes: These specialised vehicles, equipped for travel and living, require specific insurance due to their unique features and use.
Vans used for motor trading, hire and reward use, recovery or learning to drive: Vehicles in these categories usually have commercial or instructional use, and therefore need specialised insurance.
Courier-branded vans: Due to the complexity of the nature of goods you’ll be carrying, you’ll likely need more tailored coverage.

1 day van insurance FAQs

Are there any exclusions to van insurance for 1 day?
Cuvva's van insurance has some restrictions. Provisional licence holders can’t be insured, and we can’t cover vans more than 20 years old, those valued over £40,000, and those in an insurance group higher than 20.
We also cannot insure scrapped vans or vehicles used as campervans/motorhomes.
Certain modifications are also not accepted. You can check out a full list [here](https://support.cuvva.com/en/articles/4991637-vehicle-modifications).
It’s also worth noting that while you can drive in the EU with Cuvva’s van insurance, the policy must start and end in Britain. This makes 1 day van insurance not an ideal policy length, as (unlike when you’re in the UK) you can’t extend the policy in the EU via the app. The policy also only provides third party cover while in the EU, unlike the fully comprehensive coverage in the UK.
