What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is considered as any disease, illness or injury.

Before purchasing a policy, you will need to declare if you or anyone else on the policy:

  • Have had an outpatient appointment or been admitted as an inpatient in the last 6 months
  • Have taken and/or been prescribed or recommended any medication in the last 6 months
  • Are on a waiting list for medical treatment, or have any symptoms which you haven’t had a diagnosis for, whether you have sought one or not

If you are travelling to countries within the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland you are strongly advised to obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

It’s also important that you’re not travelling with the intent of receiving medical treatment or surgery.
