So, based on your feedback, we're releasing a brand new feature which rewards safe driving with savings of up to 30%!

Introducing Smart Pricing

We don't think car insurance pricing is fair. It's mainly based on statistics (like your age, and how long you've held your licence for), and those details don't give a full picture of how good a driver you are.

So Smart Pricing uses your phone's sensors to give you fairer prices based on your driving behaviour.

It's not ready just yet

We're still working on a few finishing touches. But iOS users can now join our waitlist, and be one of the first to try Smart Pricing once it launches.

Head over to the Cuvva app, and if you're on the latest app version, you'll see an 'Insights' tab at the bottom of the screen.

To join the waitlist, you'll need to turn on your motion and location permissions. The app will look at your driving habits while you're on the waitlist. Then, you'll get your Smart Price as soon as we launch.

How it works

The app uses the sensors on your phone to give you a driving score out of 100.

Your driving score will be based on:

Speed: How fast you accelerate, and whether you stick to the speed limit that you're driving in.

Braking: How quickly you stop, and if you give yourself enough time to slow down safely.

Corners: How smoothly you turn, and whether you give other drivers enough indication.

Pricing

Smart Pricing allows us to give better prices to better drivers.

We'll give you a driving score out of 100, and that score will influence your price for the month ahead. It's an aggregate score (that means that the more you drive, the greater discount you could get).

We're also working on providing driving insights in the app, so you can find out how to improve your score.

Just so you know, your price could go up if your driving score is low. And if it's really low, there's a chance that we might not be able to insure you anymore.

Don't forget to turn your phone permissions on

To use Smart Pricing, you'll need to make sure that you have these permissions enabled in your phone settings:

How do you use my data?

Keeping your data safe is extremely important to us. So we'll only ever use your driving data to:

  • Work out a fairer monthly insurance price for you
  • Determine eligibility
  • Support you if you ever need to make a claim

When will Smart Pricing come out?

We can't give an exact date just yet, but we want to have it available for all customers by the end of summer. If you join the waitlist, you'll get first access.

Smart Pricing for Android

Smart Pricing will be available on Android too, but for now the waitlist is iOS-only.

How much could I save?

The safest drivers will be able to save up to 30%!

But if your driving score is low, the price could go up. And if it's really low, there's a chance that we might not be able to insure you anymore.

Can I leave the waitlist?

Yes. If you no longer want to be part of the waitlist, you can leave by turning off your permissions in your phone settings.

Can I get Smart Pricing on my temporary car insurance?

Not right now, but it's something that we could offer in the future.

Will this affect my battery life?

Smart Pricing permissions take up about 1% of your battery life each day. So you shouldn't notice much of an impact.
