You can extend our short-term car insurance policies. So if you think you need a little longer, just pop into the app and add a bit more time. ⏰
When you can extend your policy
You can extend your policy as soon as you’re a quarter of the way through your current policy.
That means if you’ve bought a policy for 1 hour, you’d need to be at least 15 minutes through the policy before you could extend it. If you’d bought a policy for 4 days, you’d need to be at least 1 day through to extend.
If you try to extend your policy before it’s a quarter of the way through, we’ll let you know at what time you’ll be able to extend it.
How long you can extend for
When you extend your policy, you don’t have to buy the same amount of insurance again.
So, for example, if you buy a week’s worth of car insurance, and then you need just 1 more hour, you can buy just 1 hour.
The different policy durations available depend on the kind of car insurance you have. If you’re a learner driver, for example, the different policy durations you can choose from will be different to the ones you’d see if you had a full licence.
How we work out the price of your extension
Generally, the things that affect your price when you extend a policy are similar to the things that affect your price when you buy a new policy.
We look at things like your:
- Driving history
- Location when you buy the policy
It’s worth noting that technically (and legally) the extension is a completely separate policy that’s added to the end of your current one.
How to extend your policy
Once you’ve bought a policy, you’ll see a screen like this:
As soon as you’re a quarter of the way through your policy, you can tap the green “Extend” button.
Then you’ll see a screen like this:
Tap that, and you’ll be able to make a payment and extend your policy. 👍
Once you’ve done that, it works pretty much the same as buying a new policy.
