Age restrictions on our short-term car insurance

To get a temporary car insurance policy with Cuvva, you have to be at least 19 and younger than 65.

If you’re younger than 21, you have to have held your full licence for at least a year.

And if you’re younger than 21, we can’t insure you if you’ve had any at-fault incidents.

Age requirements for learner drivers

If you’re a learner driver, the age requirements are a little different. You have to be at least 17 and younger than 45.

And you need to have a supervisor, whatever your age. They need to be at least 21, with 3 years’ driving experience.

Your age affects which cars we can cover you on

For some vehicles, you might need to be older than 19, even if you’ve held your licence for more than a year.

As a general rule, the faster, more expensive and higher-spec the car, the older you’ll need to be to get a quote.

It’s difficult to say for sure whether or not you’ll able to get short-term car insurance on a particular vehicle based on your age. This is because we look at a lot of factors when deciding who we can cover.

The best way to see if we can cover you is to download the app, sign up and get a quote. We’ll tell you if you’re not old enough to drive a particular vehicle.

Your age affects your price

Even if you’re old enough to be eligible for temporary car insurance, you might still get a more expensive quote and higher excess if you’re a younger driver. This is pretty standard in insurance.

If your age is making your car insurance more expensive, there’s an easy way to find out. When you get a quote in the app, just tap “What’s affected your price”, and we’ll show you what’s made your policy more or less expensive.

The age requirements are different for our travel insurance. And they’re likely to be different for our pay-monthly car insurance, too. We’ll add that info to this bit of the website as soon as it’s confirmed.
