What's up with Android?

In April 2016, after popular demand, we brought out the first version of our Android app which allowed you to purchase hourly car insurance policies.

Since then much has changed with Cuvva and what we are able to offer but our Android hasn’t changed… at all!

Today we wanted to update you on what’s happening with Android and our future plans for the app.

Improving Android

At Cuvva, we truly believe in doing things the right way. Being a startup with limited resources, that meant we needed to focus on creating one really great app rather than spreading ourselves too thin. Also, Android developers are very hard to find! We made the tough decision to focus on the iOS app and then at a later date, take what we’ve learned from that to improve our Android app.

One year on and we’re now ready to take Android to the next level!

Hiring a lead Android engineer

We’ve just hired Rahul Shah who will be in charge of everything Android and he’ll be working closely with Blake, our UI/UX designer to rebuilt Android from the group up.

Rahul has been working on Android for over 6 years now. He’s pretty uber and has worked at Samsung Research and Babylon Health previously. We’re very lucky to have him and can’t wait for him to get started on the Android app.

Rahul reckons it will take until the summer to bring it up to date with our current iOS app and then an additional four months until we can offer our upcoming subscription product on Android.

Important things to notice

If you’re currently on Android there are a few discrepancies to what the app says and what we can actually offer you quotes on. Until we get the new version ready please be aware that:

  • You no longer need an underlying policy on a car to use Cuvva.
  • The age limit for Cuvva for sharers has dropped from 21 to 19 years old. However, if you’re aged under 21, you’ll need to of held your licence for at least a year.
  • Provisional drivers can now use Cuvva to learn to drive from the age of 17 to 45.

We’re in the process of redesigning the new Android app right now so if you have any suggestions then we would love to hear them. Just go to in-app live chat.
